MSys works very hard to convert Unix-style paths into DOS-style ones.
*Very* hard.
So hard, indeed, that
git blame -L/hello/,/green/
is translated into something like
git blame -LC:/msysgit/hello/,C:/msysgit/green/
As seen in msys_p2w in src\msys\msys\rt\src\winsup\cygwin\path.cc, line
3204ff:

seemingly absolute POSIX paths in single-letter options get expanded by
msys.dll unless they contain '=' or ';'.
So a quick and very dirty fix is to use '-L/;*evil/'. (Using an equal sign
works only when it is before a comma, so in the above example, /=*green/
would still be converted to a DOS-style path.)

The test separator char is a colon which means any absolute paths on windows
confuse the tests that use global_excludes.

Apparently the signal handling is not quite correct in the fsckobject
handling (most likely we rely on a side effect that lets us still output
some message after receiving a signal 13 but in the BuildHive setup this
fails intermittently).
As a consequence, the push in t5504 does fail as expected, but fails to
output anything (unexpected). Since this is good enough for now, let's
handle an empty output as success, too.

This happens only when the corresponding commits are not exported in
the current fast-export run. This can happen either when the relevant
commit is already marked, or when the commit is explicitly marked
as UNINTERESTING with a negative ref by another argument.
This breaks fast-export basec remote helpers.

"git daemon" uses "run_command()" without "finish_command()", so it
needs to release resources itself, which it forgot to do.

"git merge-file" tried to signal how many conflicts it found, which
obviously would not work well when there are too many of them.

The name-hash subsystem that is used to cope with case insensitive
filesystems keeps track of directories and their on-filesystem
cases for all the paths in the index by holding a pointer to a
randomly chosen cache entry that is inside the directory (for its
ce->ce_name component). This pointer was not updated even when the
cache entry was removed from the index, leading to use after free.
This was fixed by recording the path for each directory instead of
borrowing cache entries and restructuring the API somewhat.

"git am -3" had a small regression where it is aborted in its error
handling codepath when underlying merge-recursive failed in certain
ways, as it assumed that the internal call to merge-recursive will

The synopsis text and the usage string of subcommands that read
list of things from the standard input are often shown as if they
only take input from a file on a filesystem, which was misleading.

"git clone --dissociate" runs a big "git repack" process at the
end, and it helps to close file descriptors that are open on the

Correct "git p4 --detect-labels" so that it does not fail to create
a tag that points at a commit that is also being imported.

The internal stripspace() function has been moved to where it
logically belongs to, i.e. strbuf API, and the command line parser
of "git stripspace" has been updated to use the parse_options API.

Call child_process_clear() when a child ends to release the memory
allocated for its environment. This is necessary because unlike all
other users of start_command() we don't call finish_command(), which

This leak was introduced by f063d38b (daemon: use cld->env_array
when re-spawning).

arguments and environment to its own function, child_process_clear().

To be precise: when the value of the environment variable is shorter than
its name, we have to move the remaining bytes *after* expanding the
environment variable: we would look for the wrong name otherwise.
When the value is longer than the name, we still need to move the bytes
out of the way first, to avoid overwriting them with the interpolated
text.
This fixes https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues/509

Use the variable branch_name, which already has "refs/heads/" removed,
instead of blindly advancing in the ->branch string by 11 bytes. This
is safer and less magical.

If we're on a detached HEAD then wt_shortstatus_print_tracking() takes
the string "HEAD (no branch)", translates it, skips the first eleven
characters and passes the result to branch_get(), which returns a bogus
result and accesses memory out of bounds in order to produce it.
Somehow stat_tracking_info(), which is passed that result, does the
right thing anyway, i.e. it finds that there is no base.
Avoid the bogus results and memory accesses by checking for HEAD first
and exiting early in that case. This fixes t7060 with --valgrind.

unclutter the code and make it more obvious what is happening.

After we found the `@@` marker after the key to interpolate, we pretty
much only need the offset *after* the marker. So let's just advance it
instead of adding 2 in many places.
