8da2206581 fast-export: do not refer to non-existing marks
When calling `git fast-export a..a b` when a and b refer to the same
commit, nothing would be exported, and an incorrect reset line would
be printed for b ('from :0').

f5bd00a459 t9350: point out that refs are not updated correctly
This happens only when the corresponding commits are not exported in
the current fast-export run. This can happen either when the relevant
commit is already marked, or when the commit is explicitly marked
as UNINTERESTING with a negative ref by another argument.

This breaks fast-export basec remote helpers.

7e82388024 docs/git-gc: fix default value for --aggressiveDepth
In commit 07e7dbf0d (gc: default aggressive depth to 50, 2016-08-11),
the default aggressive depth of git-gc has been changed to 50. While
git-config(1) has been updated to represent the new default value,
git-gc(1) still mentions the old value. This patch fixes it.

2b35a9f4c7 Documentation: use brackets for optional arguments
The documentation for git blame used vertical bars for optional
arguments to -M and -C, which is unusual and potentially confusing.
Since most man pages use brackets for optional items, and that's
consistent with how we document the same options for git diff and
friends, use brackets here, too.

080c0155ab git-gui: avoid exception upon Ctrl+T in an empty list
Previously unstaged files can be staged by clicking on them and then
pressing Ctrl+T. Conveniently, the next unstaged file is selected
automatically so that the unstaged files can be staged by repeatedly
pressing Ctrl+T.

When a user hits Ctrl+T one time too many, though, Git GUI used to throw
this exception:

	expected number but got ""
	expected number but got ""
	    while executing
	"expr {int([lindex [$w tag ranges in_diff] 0])}"
	    (procedure "toggle_or_diff" line 13)
	    invoked from within
	"toggle_or_diff toggle .vpane.files.workdir.list "
	    (command bound to event)

Let's just avoid that by skipping the operation when there are no more
files to stage.

9c157ed68f mingw: ensure valid CTYPE
A change between versions 2.4.1 and 2.6.0 of the MSYS2 runtime modified
how Cygwin's runtime (and hence Git for Windows' MSYS2 runtime
derivative) handles locales: d16a56306d (Consolidate wctomb/mbtowc calls
for POSIX-1.2008, 2016-07-20).

An unintended side-effect is that "cold-calling" into the POSIX
emulation will start with a locale based on the current code page,
something that Git for Windows is very ill-prepared for, as it expects
to be able to pass a command-line containing non-ASCII characters to the
shell without having those characters munged.

One symptom of this behavior: when `git clone` or `git fetch` shell out
to call `git-upload-pack` with a path that contains non-ASCII
characters, the shell tried to interpret the entire command-line
(including command-line parameters) as executable path, which obviously
must fail.

9dc4268eee mingw: make stderr unbuffered again
When removing the hack for isatty(), we actually removed more than just
an isatty() hack: we removed the hack where internal data structures of
the MSVC runtime are modified in order to redirect stdout/stderr.

Instead of using that hack (that does not work with newer versions of
the runtime, anyway), we replaced it by reopening the respective file
descriptors.

What we forgot was to mark stderr as unbuffered again.

Reported by Hannes Sixt. Fixed with Jeff Hostetler's assistance.

56523dd23c t9001: work around hard-to-debug hangs
Just like the workaround we added for t9116, t9001.83 hangs sometimes --
but not always! -- when being run in the Git for Windows SDK.

The issue seems to be related to redirection via a pipe, but it is really
hard to diagnose, what with git.exe (a non-MSYS2 program) calling a Perl
script (which is executed by an MSYS2 Perl), piping into another MSYS2
program.

As hunting time is scarce these days, simply work around this for now and
leave the real diagnosis and resolution for later.

8c23f486eb Merge branch 'builtin-difftool-v6-plus'
This topic branch brings the new builtin version of the difftool into
Git for Windows' master branch.

For the moment, it still hands off to the legacy Perl script unless the
feature flag is flipped: only when the config setting
difftool.useBuiltin is set to true will `git difftool` actually use the
experimental builtin.

As the builtin difftool is slated for Git v2.12.0, we integrated those
changes and will simply drop the add-on patch that re-adds the opt-in
when the time comes to release Git for Windows v2.12.0 into the wild.

dc1edecf4b fscache: remember not-found directories
Teach FSCACHE to remember "not found" directories.

This is a performance optimization.

FSCACHE is a performance optimization available for Windows. It
intercepts Posix-style lstat() calls into an in-memory directory
using FindFirst/FindNext. It improves performance on Windows by
catching the first lstat() call in a directory, using FindFirst/
FindNext to read the list of files (and attribute data) for the
entire directory into the cache, and short-cut subsequent lstat()
calls in the same directory. This gives a major performance
boost on Windows.

However, it does not remember "not found" directories. When STATUS
runs and there are missing directories, the lstat() interception
fails to find the parent directory and simply return ENOENT for the
file -- it does not remember that the FindFirst on the directory
failed. Thus subsequent lstat() calls in the same directory, each
re-attempt the FindFirst. This completely defeats any performance
gains.

This can be seen by doing a sparse-checkout on a large repo and
then doing a read-tree to reset the skip-worktree bits and then
running status.

This change reduced status times for my very large repo by 60%.

92313435f3 rebase -i: rearrange fixup/squash lines using the rebase--helper
This operation has quadratic complexity, which is especially painful
on Windows, where shell scripts are *already* slow (mainly due to the
overhead of the POSIX emulation layer).

Let's reimplement this with linear complexity (using a hash map to
match the commits' subject lines) for the common case; Sadly, the
fixup/squash feature's design neglected performance considerations,
allowing arbitrary prefixes (read: `fixup! hell` will match the
commit subject `hello world`), which means that we are stuck with
quadratic performance in the worst case.

The reimplemented logic also happens to fix a bug where commented-out
lines (representing empty patches) were dropped by the previous code.
